Balkán-ház

The center of the planning process was a meditation around a whitewashed wall left behind an old house. The wall is a canvas and an imprint of an era. Comprehending the relationship between its surface, the town around it and the place surrounded by the wall, helped me understand how architecture can define a community of an ethnic minority living there for centuries, the presence of which can be felt in the characteristics of Szentendre and in the town’s traditions as well. The plan is a finite material manifestation of the community, which is also a continuity where the events are tying the past and the present, where the preservation of traditions is forming itself from moment to moment.
