The thermal power station in Székesfehérvár, having lost its original function, is a scar on the urban fabric just a few hundred meters from the city centre. As the city is outgrowing its cultural establishments, the opportunity arises: transforming the area to become the new cultural hub of Székesfehérvár in the framework of the European Capital of Culture program. As a reference for the architectural program, I examined similar urban developments, where the inhabitants of an area get to reclaim the unoccupied buildings through some sorts of vernacular adaptation. Through these I noticed a general need for public spaces where artists and art enthusiasts have a platform for interaction. The new studio building is meant to host a most diverse range of creative activity, wile the building of the power plant is being adapted for community use: besides from serving as a cafe, exhibitions, conferences and workshops can take place in its newly created spaces.
