The Margaret Island Museum Pavilion Competition

The Margaret Island Museum Pavilion competition was launched by the italian architect Serena Di Giuliano in the context of the lecture she gave in the course of Design Methodology of Balázs Mihály DLA and the Public Building Design Department.
- May 10, 2021

The lecture “A Continuous Dialogue” investigated the multiple aspects of the Design Process the Architect has to engage in with a dialogue.
How can the Design proposal resonate by producing a positive change in the relation between the City and the River?
And, how can it trigger new ways to interact with the River and become a space to reunite People of different age and interests?
These are the fundamentals set for the Design Process of the Competition “Margaret Island Museum Pavilion”.
140 students participated with 59 brilliant works submitted.
The projects were evaluated based on the ability to find/develop/add Relations to the existing context that could be the epicenter of new relations. Moreover, the works were evaluated based on the clarity of the explanation of the Design Concept and, finally, the correspondence between the original Concept and the developed Project.
The jury (Serena Di Giuliano, Balázs Mihály DLA, Kronavetter Péter DLA, Ritter Dániel) selected 15 projects which were evaluated in an open lecture.
Serena Di Giuliano, who lives in Tokyo and works at SANAA since 2014, evaluated the 15 projects on the occasion of the lecture “Open Conversation about Margaret Island”. The evaluation was done in the form of a roundtable event in which the students were invited to interact and share the design process behind their work.
