During the summer of 2023, I made a 5-day round trip in Slovenia, focusing primarily on the buildings of the architectural studio Arrea. Their concepts draw heavily from the local context, continuing the story of the past heritage with careful additions and modifications. My study consists of two parts. The first introduces the general and architectural characteristics of Slovenia, and contains a brief portrait of the Arrea Studio. The second chapter examines the presence of regionalism in their practice arranged around five key concepts: historical heritage, terrain and building, scale, materiality, and progressive solutions. The chosen projects are primarily small or middle-sized public buildings, renovations, extensions and new constructions can be found among them, but the high standard of architectural quality remains unchanged throughout all of them. What are the ingredients that make Slovenian regionalist architecture stand out internationally?
