II. Place

“For, in fact, what is man in nature?” asks Pascal, and looks for our place in a world the centre of which is everywhere and its outline is nowhere. „It is an infinite sphere, the centre of which is everywhere, the circumference nowhere”. This question is equally valid after 400 years, so in my study I am looking for the place of border in the life of people living nowadays. My work is supported by my experiences of space, the large scale of the popular belief and the depth of Pascal’s thoughts. I would like to present threshold as a bordering area and the limit situation as an existentional experience in addition to it, the connection between them. Stepping over the doorstep and arriving in the area of the threshold, I intend to look at the unlimited. I try to unfold he symbol of the threshold by using sources describing the basic human experiences independently from architecture.
